Boyda Challenges Jenkins to Four Town Hall Debates

In Letter Sent Last Friday, Boyda Outlines Vision for a Thoughtful and Informed Election Season

TOPEKA, KS – On Friday, August 22, Congresswoman Nancy Boyda (Kansas Second District) wrote to challenger Lynn Jenkins to formally propose a series of four town hall debates in the Kansas Second District Congressional race.

The proposed debates – two in September and two in October – will offer Second District voters the opportunity to learn more about the policies and ideas of both candidates for Congress.

"As Election Day approaches, I believe that we owe Second District voters the opportunity to hear our ideas for America's future," Congresswoman Boyda wrote.  "In that spirit, I propose that we participate in four hour-long, town-hall-style debates in September and October.  The town hall format will offer individual Kansans the opportunity to ask questions, share their ideas, and hear our views on the issues pending in Congress."

Dear Madam Treasurer:

Congratulations on securing the Republican nomination for the Kansas Second District seat in the U.S. House of Representatives!  I look forward to a thoughtful and productive campaign season.

As Election Day approaches, I believe that we owe Second District voters the opportunity to hear our ideas for America's future.  In that spirit, I propose that we participate in four hour-long, town-hall-style debates in September and October.  The town hall format will offer individual Kansans the opportunity to ask questions, share their ideas, and hear our views on the issues pending in Congress.

My campaign manager, Chad Manspeaker, will follow up with your staff to arrange details.  Please know that my campaign intends to publicly announce this proposal on Monday, August 25, 2008.

I look forward to our debates, and once again, please accept my sincere congratulations on your nomination.

Very truly yours,

Nancy Boyda
Member of Congress
